iVPN and Yosemite

Hi Everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted anything and unfortunately, I'm only posting now to let you know about some bad news.

After months of testing iVPN with Yosemite's Developer Previews and updating iVPN to be fully compatible on launch day, I have let you down. Many users have already noticed that iVPN Monitor is not functional in OS X Yosemite. Unfortunately, this is because of a change that Apple has made to some of the OS's networking programs that allow iVPN Monitor to detect and identify incoming VPN connections. I can only offer my sincerest apologies to anyone inconvenienced by this, and I promise to do my best to get iVPN Monitor back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thankfully, this is the only bug that has been found so far within iVPN on Yosemite and it has not hindered the main functionality of iVPN. Anyone who has upgraded to Yosemite and has found that iVPN has stopped accepting connections, please follow the instructions below to reinstall iVPN. This is sometimes necessary after an OS upgrade.

Uninstall iVPN using the uninstall option from the iVPN menu. Once you have done this, please also make sure to remove the following files if they still exist:

  • /Applications/
  • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.macserve.ppp.pptp.plist
  • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.macserve.ppp.l2tp.plist
  • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.macserve.ivpn.plist
  • /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.MacServe.ivpnHelper.plist
  • /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.MacServe.ivpnHelper
  • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
  • /Library/Application Support/iVPN/
  • /etc/ppp/
  • The keychain item named "" in the System keychain

When you have removed these files, please reboot your Mac and then run the "Repair Disk Permissions" from within the Disk Utility app. Once that has finished, please reboot again and then re-download the latest version of iVPN from the MacServe website and set it up from scratch.

Hopefully this process should solve any problems encountered after upgrading to Yosemite. If not, please drop me an email and I'll try to help you get back up and running.
